Okay, guys? I have problems. Yeah. I know. How surprising. [Warren shrugs, smiling. He doesn't mind. But onto the serious business.]

One. Why don't we have fixed sentences? I mean, seriously. If this is a prison and not an asylum, can't we reasonably have some guestimate as to how long we're gonna be here for? Because this indefinite shit? It's not helping anyone. Really, trust me on this.

Second. You know how people are getting murdered when Iago feels like he needs a sandwich or whatever? What about the non-murderous people, like me? Why don't we ever get rewarded for being good little prison zombies? Because seriously, people are less likely to do bad stuff if they've got things to lose. And at the moment, people don't have any chance of freedom and nothing really important to stop them from messing with the other inmates.

Thirdly. [He stops, leaning towards the camera.] Since I've just like, enlightened you all so much, I don't suppose anyone's got some smokes?

[Yeah, Warren's just fishing for free stuff at the same time as being a bit astute with dubious motives.]

Not all prisons come with fixed sentences, but you're right about those rewards. You should talk to your warden.

I've got a few smokes you can have.

I need to know more about Nygma.

It's not about me, it's about everyone, yeah?

[Private]

Uh huh. Okay. What do you want to know?

I thought we were all lifers. Lost causes and all.

I'll give you some smokes, but in return for something. Of course. I didn't particularly need your bit of enlightening.

It's not a terrible idea, comrade, but I have killed someone once, under immense stress here, and it was four months ago.

What do I get? Called a liar in public. There are some odd standards here, comrade.

I'd hope there were like, degrees of being a lost cause. Because seriously, it's not like I ever killed anyone.

What have you got in mind, Jean-Claude?

Yeah, see? You do the right thing, and then people just remember the one time something went wrong. That's so unfair.

Well, Investeur, if you could find me the optimal market for a significant quantity of alcohol, and the prices people are prepared to pay or what they are prepared to barter for some, that'd be a fair exchange.

Is that so? You never fail to surprise me.

It sometimes feels as if my reputation precedes all behaviour.

[pause]

I don't really mean the person making the accusations herself, comrade. She has her reasons. Nor my warden, she can see things differently. It's the people that believed her which make me despair.

Yeah, well. It seems a bit unfair that I'm here on financial crimes. You didn't kill anyone, right?

I guess I could do a bit of a search for you. But you know, if there is a market, I'm not just gonna let it be. If you know what I'm saying. [He wants in.]

Help me get my hands on some more, and we'll talk. I'm sure we can divide what we make. [How equally is a different matter]

Yeah, that's sometimes how it goes. It can precede you right into the courtroom where the judge is hearing your case.

Sure, I get it. It's pretty rough that most people probably will just believe what she says straight out.

I'll have to see what I can do about that as well. We'll have to draw up some kind of contract, if there's any real benefit in this whole alcohol business. [Warren likes contracts a lot.]

I've never had that one, personally, but it is true, comrade.

Exactly. It's... kind of disappointing, comrade, when I've done nothing wrong.

Well, as far as I can see it, there's two currencies around here; alcohol and cigarettes. The second are much more freely avaliable than the latter, but just as much in demand. The alcohol is what people will do anything for. Or, some people.

Find me who and we've got a deal, as there has to be business in this.

It is awfully dry around here. I haven't run into anything stronger either. It's strange, for a prison, but it's not like there's a lot of contact with the outside.

Done. Jean-Claude, this looks like the beginning of a ver profitable friendship.

I'd recommend getting use to it. These people aren't gonna change, so they probably will assume that you won't either.

There's hardly anywhere to sneak contraband in from. We'll have to look out when there's a port that doesn't try to kill everyone.

I imagine it is, Investeur.
