Okay, guys? I have problems. Yeah. I know. How surprising. [Warren shrugs, smiling. He doesn't mind. But onto the serious business.]

One. Why don't we have fixed sentences? I mean, seriously. If this is a prison and not an asylum, can't we reasonably have some guestimate as to how long we're gonna be here for? Because this indefinite shit? It's not helping anyone. Really, trust me on this.

Second. You know how people are getting murdered when Iago feels like he needs a sandwich or whatever? What about the non-murderous people, like me? Why don't we ever get rewarded for being good little prison zombies? Because seriously, people are less likely to do bad stuff if they've got things to lose. And at the moment, people don't have any chance of freedom and nothing really important to stop them from messing with the other inmates.

Thirdly. [He stops, leaning towards the camera.] Since I've just like, enlightened you all so much, I don't suppose anyone's got some smokes?

[Yeah, Warren's just fishing for free stuff at the same time as being a bit astute with dubious motives.]

You know, we could make some. It's not like there'd be a lot of competition, or that they would be expecting quality when there's no alternative.

I suppose you're right, comrade.

Disappointing, when their whole mission is to get people to change, isn't it?

Do you know how? Because I might be French, but I haven't seen grapes in a very long time.

Well, not good stuff, but it's basic science, right? If you've got yeast and a high sugar content, bam, you get booze. Not tasty and it'll probably make you sick, but hey. Alcohol.

True enough. We'd have to get someone to get us some from the kitchen, though, as I... have been fired and I doubt anyone's going to buy that you're capable of working there.

Yeah, it is. That's why I wanted to know about fixed sentences. Because no one is gonna get out of here any other way. Unless you're really lucky like Swing.

But surely, comrade, that'll just have some inmates determinedly sticking out their time without doing a thing to improve, because then that's not a condition of escaping anymore.

[Because this is what he'd do...]
From: [identity profile] warrenwhite.livejournal.com
Well, all you really need from there is the yeast. The sugar is managable, all you'd have to do is collect fruit and things from lunch. So we just need to work out the yeast. There's bound to be a way.
From: [identity profile] 453gof-flesh.livejournal.com
...I have rather a large supply of fruit as it is. Does it matter if it's dried?

[Clapet, getting out of his 'no, that's money!' thinking?]

I suppose we just need to persuade someone to go and bake.
From: [identity profile] warrenwhite.livejournal.com
I don't think it should. We could just put in water to compensate, right?

Yeah, true. Really, there might be someone who's willing to do it for some of the product.
From: [identity profile] 453gof-flesh.livejournal.com
We could, we could.

...There might. See if you can find someone who works in the kitchen who might be prepared to do that.

Depressing, right? [Warren sighs. He's looking at his future.] So there's no hope of escape at all?
From: [identity profile] warrenwhite.livejournal.com
Alright. I'll sound it out. There's bound to be someone.

Not unless you comply, I imagine, comrade.

Quite a... simple system of control, but an effective one.

Control overall. Internal control isn't so great, as far as I'm concerned.

Well, no, but that's not entirely a bad thing, comrade.

Not from where I'm sitting. Even if this place is better than Arkham.

You and I both. I guess all we can do is try to enjoy ourselves in whatever little ways we can until such a time as we figure that one out... Of course, having booze to hand would make "enjoying ourselves" that little bit easier.

Whose bright idea was it to put the pub in the wardens' section, anyway?

Rock on.

Yeah. Same rules still apply. Depends on the prison.

[Private]

I want you to tell me what he did specifically that made you so afraid of him back then.

[Private] Rock on.

Date: 2010-09-17 08:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] warrenwhite.livejournal.com
Well, man, it wasn't really him specifically. It was the prison, you know, and the lot of them as a group. Which is why it was so surprising when he reformed, you know?

Private.

Yeah, I'm with you. Being completely off my face is more or less the only way to make this place close to bearable. Come to think of it, have you got a warden yet?

Someone trying to keep us miserable, I'd bet.

Miserable and (supposedly) malleable. I don't know about you but being in a bad mood generally makes me less likely to put up with people's bullshit.

And yeah, I got sorted. Fanny—do you know her? She's...a character. What about you?
